Caroline Mège-McCormick

Welcome! I’m a professional violinist. For more than ten years I’ve specialised in Scottish traditional fiddle and music for dancing.

Solo or with other musicians, I play for Scottish dance workshops and balls in France and across Europe. I regularly lead the Paris Band of the RSCDS Paris Branch for its Scottish Country Dance balls. I also perform on stage with Le Grand POP, a folk dance orchestra, and I teach violin: feel free to contact me for masterclasses or private lessons.

I created The Scottish Frogs: a ceilidh band of musicians and callers to get everyone dancing!

From a Breton and Scottish family, Caroline Mège-McCormick studied classical violin at the conservatoire, earning her Diplôme d’Études Musicales. After studying law up to a Master’s degree, she devoted herself fully to music and obtained her Diplôme d’État in violin.

Passionate about traditional music, she has specialised for more than ten years in the Scottish repertoire for dancing. She refined her playing with violinist Keith Smith and through many musical encounters in France and Scotland (Matthias Rank, Luc Brady, Jim Lindsay, Andy Imbrie, Adam Sutherland…), then in the United States at masterclasses with Alasdair Fraser, Hanneke Cassel and Katie McNally.

Since 2018 she has played for the Scottish Country Dance balls of the RSCDS Paris Branch. She regularly leads the Paris Band, including when it is invited to Germany and England. Solo or with other musicians, she plays for Scottish dance workshops and balls in France and across Europe.

She created The Scottish Frogs to bring the ceilidh to as many people as possible. With the band she has played across France (La Seine Musicale, Jockey Club de Paris, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen, the British Embassy, the Caledonian Society of France…) and abroad (Belgium, England, Scotland, San Francisco…).

A member of the collective Le Grand POP since 2022, she performs in the Bal à Béné, a dance evening drawing on dance traditions from across Europe. She also plays in orchestras and teaches violin at the Conservatoire de Saint-Denis, as well as through private lessons and masterclasses.
